The bottom of my plasma TV seems lighter than the rest when there are black scenes; is this normal? ?

Hi guys, got a question, hope you can help. I just bought a new 50" Pioneer Elite Kuro (PRO-111FD). When I am watching a DVD or a movie on satellite in letterbox, with the black bars, it seems that the bottom of the TV, along the frame, is looks kind of cloudy whiteish. It doesn't look as dark as the rest of the screen. Even in darker scenes that are all black, is seems that, along the bottom of the screen, they aren't as dark. I don't know if the panel I have is defective, or if this is normal of a plasma as I think that's where the panel's power comes from, the bottom. Any thoughts?

no my pioneer elite does not have the problem. Pioneer only has a 3% defect rate (that's extremely low). It is possible that your panel is defective, but I hope not. If you have a light around the area, even if it isn't giving glare it could be effecting the picture. I would say watch it at night and turn off all of the lights, if you still have the problem defenately return it for another one.

Sorry about your bad experience, exchange it for another elite though. There is nothing even close to the quality of the image you will get from a pioneer.

how do i connect my laptop computer to my sony bravia lcd tv. What cable do i require??

i have a toshiba laptop

Some tvs these days are basically computer monitors. Plasma tv are atleast. So you should be able to connect your laptop to your tv via your laptops dvi connector which is the connector for external monitor(if it has one). Your tv has 3 hdmi connectors which work well with dvi. At the very least your laptop should have an older rgb monitor connector but I don´t know which model you have. My monitor is an rgb monitor while my computer has 2 dvi connectors. A dvi to rgb adapter works well. Don´t know how rgb to hdmi would work though.

You could go analog instead too. You laptop probably has an S-video or component output. Your tv has scart and component input. Such cables and adaptors are available at most electronics stores.

LCD tv samsung 42'' . Blown Pixel, or dirt spec?

Ok whats up with this. I was on my ps3, and I left it on the 'whats new', so, the screen turns blue. I was at the side of the tv, I was doing something do the speaker, anyway, I then turn my head, and I notice some tiny tiny black spot. I tried wiping it, but it didnt come off. Like, I can only sorta see it when Im looking at it from the side, and the screen has to be emitting a light picture. I look at the dot, i put my finger on it, then I move to the center, so that the tv is now in front of me, and i remove my finger and I dont see the black spot. My brother said that If it were a blown pixel, it would be visible at any angle, well, is that true. Do u know what this is?. So, I dont know, its either a blown pixel, or some dirt spec inside the tv. what do u think?

Using a magnifying glass on the area will help determine if it's just dirt or a dead or stuck pixel. A dead/stuck pixel should appear square.

Blown pixels are visible from the front. Dirt appear more obvious from the side.

Try scratching it lightly with your fingernail. If it's dirt it should be picked up and come off. (You might need to wipe off the smudges.)

Also try turning off the monitor and shining a bright light across the screen. That will help you to see the dirt and dust on the screen. But just about every monitor will build up dust over time. You can clean them with a damp cloth.

LCD monitors can blow pixels and there are various utilities around for testing them. Most of them just run through a variety of colors and the dead pixel will appear with some colors.
