Can I use a table top antenna(bunny ears) to watch digital over the air broadcasts?

I'm looking into buying a used CRT TV and I found a good deal on one with a built in digital tuner (ATSC/QAM). I live in the city of Chicago so I know that the digital signals are strong but I'm sure that there's a lot of noise in the air. I was wondering if I can pick up a digital signal with a table top antenna. Or would it be better for me to buy a regular analog TV and buy a converter box? Also, would a special antenna be needed for any of this.

An antenna will be needed for either case to pick up the signals. Built in or external converter both need an antenna.

Type your address into http://www.antennaweb.org and it will show you where the broadcast towers are around your home and what size antenna, or indoor/outdoor you may need.
